John R. Gregory’s hobby became his legacy. In 1999, the native New Englander set up a small Ohio white pine sawmill in Holmes County. Soon after, his passion grew into Gregory Log and Lumber Ltd. In 2006, John R. Gregory passed away, but the commitment to his passion continues. Since inheriting Gregory Log and Lumber Ltd. from his friend and colleague, Leroy A. Yoder has continued to honor the founder’s legacy. The small Ohio white pine sawmill has grown to include 16 employees and thousands of customers across the country.

John R. Gregory and Leroy A. Yoder met at opposite ends of their lives. When the two men became acquainted, John R. Gregory was a recent retiree who soon discovered he was not quite ready to retire. Leroy A. Yoder was a young mechanic eager to make his mark. He came recommended as someone who could help get a hobby sawmill up and running.

Over time, both men realized they aspired to something more than a hobby sawmill or the occasional one-off job. From that shared realization, Gregory Log & Lumber Ltd. was formed.

The two men were ultimately joined by loader operators, lumber stackers, sawyers, molder operators and yardmen. In 2006, John R. Gregory, passed away and Leroy A. Yoder inherited Gregory Log and Lumber Ltd., a passion for Ohio white pine and a commitment to the mill.
